Lithuania will renew an obligatory appeal on military service in connection with features of a present geopolitical situation.

As the Censor.NET with reference to the Ukrainian service Air Force, such statement was made by the president of the country Dalia Grybauskaite after special session of the State Council of defense.

The appeal will be restored for a period of 5 years with the purpose to strengthen and accelerate a set in the Lithuanian armed forces.

"The State Council on defense decided to return obligatory military service for a period of five years, having estimated threats of national security, - Grybauskaite who, according to the Lithuanian constitution, is the Supreme Commander declared. - 3500 conscripts will be annually called for 9 months. It makes 1,7% of all potential recruits".

Madam Grybauskaite didn't mention in the statement openly situation in Ukraine, however Lithuania together with two other Baltic states repeatedly expressed concern about the Russian aggression.

The parliament of Lithuania still has to approve renewal of an appeal.

The country cancelled an appeal in 2008 after transition to professional army.
