At the meeting with the President of Ukraine, the parties discussed the problems with implementation of the Minsk agreements and the need to introduce peacekeepers in Donbass

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met in Kyiv with U.S. Senator Rob Portman stressed the importance of transatlantic solidarity to support Ukraine, which now upholds democratic values in the confrontation with the aggressor.

"We in Ukraine now, we are defending global security and global democracy. If we lose this battle - loses to world security," quoted the President's press service.

The President added that Ukraine is making every effort to implement the Minsk agreements and is counting on U.S. support to ensure their implementation by all parties.

As reported in the administration of the President, Poroshenko stressed the need for the introduction of an international peacekeeping mission, "to ensure the stability of the peace process".

On the other hand, the President noted that Ukraine is now fighting not only to defend the country, but also to change it, "to bring her to completely new values."

The President thanked the Senator for his personal position on the need to provide Ukraine with more support.

The Senator also noted that America needs to be close to Ukraine. He stressed that he was impressed by the changes that have occurred in the country over the last year. But, a year has increased significantly and threats to security of Ukraine.

Portman said that advocates that the US was more involved in ensuring the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

According to the Senator, the U.S. administration should take measures not only in the implementation of training programs for the military, but also in improving the defense of the Ukrainian army.

Portman also noted the importance of further financial support for reforms in Ukraine.
