The day of defender of Ukraine invited to celebrate under the slogan "Power unconquered".

Today, October 14, for the first time celebrated the Day of defender of Ukraine. The holiday was established by presidential decree No. 497/2015. At the same time the document has been cancelled the 2009 decree, according to which on 23 February was celebrated Day of the defender of Fatherland.

As stated in the presidential decree, the Day of defender of Ukraine established "for the purpose of honoring combat heroism, the dedication of citizens who have dedicated their lives to serving the Ukrainian people, strengthening of public awareness and concern for the defenders of their native land, the preservation and development of national military traditions."

President Petro Poroshenko has proposed to celebrate the holiday the day of defender of Ukraine, which for the first time the country will celebrate on 14 October, under the slogan "Power unconquered". "That was the slogan - "the Power of the unconquered" - the first time our country will celebrate the Day of defender of Ukraine. This holiday was founded in difficult times to honor the courage and heroism of defenders of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine", - said the head of state.

The President stressed that the protection of the Motherland has become a matter of all Ukrainians, so the Day of defender of Ukraine, which determined the day should be a national holiday, as significant as Christmas, Easter or independence Day.

Note that October 14, the Orthodox and the Greek Catholics of Ukraine celebrate a great holiday - day of the Holy virgin. However, on the same day is celebrated the patronage of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
